UN Women continues to support the Georgian security sector in integrating gender analysis and promoting relevant knowledge. Within the framework of a professional development training series, in cooperation with the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), a training session was held on 6 and 7 October for representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service and the Georgian Intelligence Service, as well as the staff of the Office of the National Security Council.

The training aimed to improve the participants’ knowledge and skills on integrating gender analysis into the activities of their respective agencies. The meetings discussed the commitments made within the framework of the National Action Plan on the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Women, Peace and Security, and the effective implementation of those commitments. It is noteworthy that during the training, the participants shared the achievements of their institutions with one another and discussed the existing challenges.

“It is important that the security sector of Georgia further supports gender equality and gender justice,” highlighted training participant Natia Zoidze. “This training helps us get more information about gender analysis and then use it for the evaluation and planning of the institution’s gender policy.”

Another attendee, Giorgi Baramidze, drew attention to the importance of the issue of gender equality in institutional development: “Integrating gender topics into the process of administrative proceedings increases the flexibility of the institution and its effectiveness.”

UN Women will further continue to support Georgian security sector institutions in integrating gender analysis. Where a series of professional development training courses are being held within the framework of the UN Women “Accelerating Implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Georgia” project, which has been generously funded by the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund of the British Government, as well as the UK Ministry of Defence.
