In the frameworks of the HeforShe campaign a meeting with students was held in Tbilisi State University

UN Youth Delegate Lasha Shakulashvili, a HeForShe partner with UN Women Country Office in Georgia, has organized screening of the Q&A with Emma Watson on gender equality with some 40 students of various disciplines from Tbilisi based universities. Young men and women shared their experiences with gender based discrimination and discussed importance of mainstreaming gender in the education system and in public and private institutions practice.

“During job interviews, when I get asked if I am married or if I plan to have children – I get quite alarmed as if they are afraid to hire me because I represent a liability and will not be allowed to exercise my right to maternity leave once I became a mom,” – one of the female participants stated.

“I have worked in rural areas and I noticed that women are treated as integral part of a household production unit, but they are never allowed to go to village gathering spots to discuss community business, because women are perceived as unequal parties to “serious” discussions” - said one of the attendees while sharing his experience.

The event took place in the frameworks of the Gender Week supported by the student organization “Georgian Youth For Future” and hosted by Tbilisi State University. Lasha will have similar discussions with the youth in Georgia’s regions under his UN Youth Delegate mandate (2015).
