From now on, a crisis center will be functioning not only in Tbilisi but also in Kutaisi and will provide psychological and social assistance and rehabilitation, medical and legal services to the victims of violence. The first crisis center opened in Tbilisi in 2016 and has provided support to 63 victims of violence so far.

UN Women has been cooperating with the State Fund since 2010. Within the framework of this cooperation, four shelters, two crisis centers and the victim protection hotline 116 006 became operational in the country.

“The State Fund provides various types of assistance to the victims of violence and helps them in obtaining the status of an alleged victim,” noted Tamar Barkalaia, director of the State Fund. “Among other activities, the Fund’s goal is to promote state services and raise public awareness. In this respect, there have been various information campaigns carried out in the country throughout the year.”

It is noteworthy that since collaborating with UN Women, the mandate of the State Fund has expanded, namely to creating training modules for the staff of shelters and crisis centers and to providing standardized services for the survivors of sexual violence. The State Fund will now provide quality services to the victims of sexual violence as well.

Within the framework of the cooperation, four additional crisis centers in the regions of Adjara, Guria, Kvemo Kartli and Shida Kartli will be opened.
