Tbilisi TV Tower Lit in Orange to Mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

At the initiative of the UN Women Country Office in Georgia and with the support of the Office of Tbilisi Mayor, the TV Broadcasting Tower in Tbilisi was lit in orange.
With this symbolic gesture, Tbilisi joined the global campaign against gender violence once again. The campaign was launched on November 25, on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and will continue for 16 days.
The official color of the campaign is orange, so the cities of the world express their support by lighting remarkable buildings and objects in orange. Orange color also dominates in the events held on this day. The capital of Georgia has joined this initiative from 2016.
Everyone has the opportunity to participate in the campaign. It is enough for them to wear orange clothes or accessories on November 25 and thus show solidarity to the fight against violence against women.
The 16-day international campaign against gender violence has been celebrated since the early 1990s. It aims to raise public awareness and demonstrate solidarity towards victims of gender violence. This year's main focus is on sexual harassment, which is one of the manifestations of gender discrimination and inequality. It is noteworthy that according to the National Study on Violence Against Women, sexual harassment in Georgia has been experienced by one woman out of five over the course of life.
