Perception of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence in Tbilisi, Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti

The goal of the study was to identify attitude of population of Georgia, in particular, people living in Tbilisi, Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti towards violence against women and girls, as well as domestic violence, and to assess the level of awareness of victims of violence regarding existing services.

The study has been commissioned by UN Women, under the UN joint program To Enhance Gender Equality in Georgia, with the financial support of the Government of Sweden. The study has been conducted by local research organization Institute of Policy Studies. The results of the study will inform the process of planning awareness building campaign on violence against women and promotion of services provided by relevant state and non-governmental organizations to the victims of violence.

Field works were carried out in July-September 2013 in Tbilisi, Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions which at the same time are target regions of the abovementioned UN joint program.
