E-learning course on gender mainstreaming in public service to be introduced at GIPA
Date:
UN Women in Georgia continues to strengthen partnerships that advance gender-responsive governance by supporting women’s leadership and inclusive decision-making processes. As part of these efforts, UN Women has developed a new e-learning course on Gender Mainstreaming in Public Service, which will be introduced at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA).
The course will be integrated into GIPA’s continuing education platform as well as its bachelor’s programme in governance. It aims to equip students and individuals aspiring to pursue careers in the public sector with practical knowledge and the skills to apply gender mainstreaming in public administration, ultimately contributing to the institutionalization of gender-responsive approaches within public sector capacity development.
The e-learning course was presented at GIPA during an event attended by academic staff and students. Participants discussed the course objectives, learning format and expected outcomes, as well as opportunities for its integration into formal education and professional training systems. The presentation also introduced the course structure and content and highlighted the relevance of gender mainstreaming for effective, inclusive and gender-responsive public administration and governance.
“Today, we are discussing how governance can be made fair and equal,” said Marine Ioseliani, Rector of GIPA. “This is a critically important topic. The mission of GIPA, as well as of this initiative, is to support education, professional development and the integration of best practices into learning.”
Gender mainstreaming plays a critical role in advancing gender equality and strengthening good governance. It ensures that the needs, experiences and perspectives of women and men, girls and boys are systematically reflected in the design and implementation of public policies. By addressing structural inequalities, gender mainstreaming supports the development of more inclusive, effective and equitable policies and programmes, strengthens public trust, improves decision-making and contributes to sustainable development for all.
The e-learning course Gender Mainstreaming in Public Service was developed under the second phase of the UN Women project “Good Governance for Gender Equality in Georgia” (GG4GEG II), funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
