A working group recently launched by UN Women and the Prime Minister’s Office to enhance coordination and consolidate national efforts among stakeholders working towards the overarching goal of eliminating violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Georgia.

The Task Force comprises representatives from government, the donor community and civil society organizations and aims to support the Government of Georgia in meeting its obligations at the international, regional and local levels around preventing and combating VAWG. The Task Force will further serve as a platform for increased coordination among national stakeholders contributing to the national response against VAWG.

At the meeting, UN Women Country Representative Erika Kvapilova remarked: “We hope that the Task Force will contribute to more frequent and effective use of international and domestic resources to implement Georgia’s commitments on combating violence against women and girls and will strengthen coordination and synergies among diverse actors required for sustainable and meaningful action.”

The Task Force is facilitated by UN Women and co-chaired by the Assistant of the Prime Minister of Georgia on Human Rights and Gender Equality issues. The agenda of the Task Force was developed based on broad consultations with national stakeholders. The current composition of the Task Force brings together over 40 organizations working in the area of gender equality and violence against women in Georgia. The membership is further open to all relevant government entities, international organizations and civil society organizations with the mandate to work in the field.
